“The Calling” series

I feel invisible waves of energy moving like ripples – sometimes waves – gently lapping and crashing into held space. When I was younger, it often felt chaotic because I was simply an empty vessel allowing everything I read, heard, saw to overflow into me. Emotionally overwhelmed with pulsating love, anger, hate and fear … it was extremely difficult to differentiate what was “mine”. Being overly receptive also meant letting in energies that were uninvited, so it became a practiced routine in blocking and creating diversions. It’s my belief that everyone has this capacity in some form or other, with varying degrees of control and utilization. It may come down to how brave a being is to allow the full capacity of all the different “waves” to reach them.

So this is the basis for my latest canvas series, “The Calling”. It is an attempt to “work the muscle” of metaphysical communication; for spirit to touch spirit, and to channel thoughts and experiences vs possession and control. The process for each canvas strives to balance the line between thought out structure/plan and natural occurrence, which is a concept that connects all my art.

I want each painting to encompass a particular moment of invocation: the shapes, colors, and eventual rendered image, are all parts to a whole “sentence” essentially. The feeling and image are symbols, much like words are, and given personal meaning. The meaning of the sentence as a whole is meant to be interpreted individually, though for myself they are a very specific group of symbols between whom I have been ‘Calling’ and in turn who ‘Calls Me’.
